Strong winds fanned numerous wildfires across Los Angeles, with the Palisades fire burning approximately 300 acres in Pacific Palisades. Thousands of residents were evacuated, and the Getty Villa grounds also caught fire.
By Tuesday, strong winds had fueled several wildfires across the Los Angeles area. By 3:30 p.m. local time, the Palisades fire had scorched about 300 acres in Pacific Palisades, a coastal neighborhood west of downtown Los Angeles . Approximately 30,000 residents were ordered to evacuate, and over 10,000 homes faced potential threat. The Getty Villa grounds also caught fire, according to reports from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The National Weather Service predicted the strongest Santa Ana windstorm in over a decade for Los Angeles and Ventura counties, with dangerous winds prompting Southern California Edison to shut off power to thousands of residents to prevent wildfires. By Tuesday afternoon, nearly 7,500 customers across the two counties lost power, and Edison contemplated shutoffs for another 400,000 residents as winds intensified. The rapidly spreading fire forced numerous people to flee on foot, abandoning their vehicles. Evacuation traffic became gridlocked, and bulldozers were deployed to create fire breaks. Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene, with houses burning and jumping across the landscape.
