Many of the woes for the Arizona Cardinals are rooted in injuries that have struck the interior offensive line.
Kingsbury didn’t provide any specifics regarding Hernandez’ injury or possible timeline to return to the lineup, saying the guard won’t play against the Rams and adding, “There will probably be lost time, but hopefully not for the rest of the season.”
Kingsbury doesn’t expect Hudson to return this week and when pressed if Hudson’s knee is ever going to get better, he said, “I feel like it’s progressing; I just don’t know how soon he’ll get back.” Whoever starts, it’s not an ideal situation considering the interior line will be going against one of the most feared defensive tackles of his generation in the Rams’ Aaron Donald, the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
“It’s been unfortunate that we’ve had so many injuries this year in that inside piece, particularly with guys coming in that weren’t with us in camp,” Kingsbury said. “You know, guys that were signed off practice squads or we traded for, trying to pick it up midseason … and go out there and execute at a high level.
Yes, opposing defenses have been deploying a soft zone secondary with two safeties playing back to keep Murray from taking any big shots down the field. But because Arizona hasn’t been able to sustain any threat of a credibly consistent running game, defenses haven’t had to adjust and play closer to the box.“Yeah, there’s no doubt,” Kingsbury said.
