Readers discuss the problems with DART; explain retirement; do not want to use tax dollars on private industry; and a would like cell phones allowed in schools.Re: “Talks on budget for 2025 stall — Appointees fail to overcome their differences over how agency approaches spending,” Sept. 12 Metro & Business story.In her story, Amber Gaudet quoted the Irving mayor questioning what DART’s ridership is receiving for the dollars they are spending.
I applaud de Vinck and his opinion regarding retirees not defining themselves by what they do. Just like playing chess, there are still moves to make.As a certified retirement transition coach , I am keenly aware this is something not all retirees think about prior to retiring. Some become stuck when asking themselves now what and who am I now?
The transition into this next phase of life is an opportunity to go from a role to our soul, not necessarily focusing on what we will do, but who we get to become. Retiring is a process, not an event, and as with most transitions, we need to listen to what de Vinck advises — rely on patience and grace to take us from chaos to calm.Re: “Lawmakers, Be Careful With Our Money — Surely we can strengthen the electric grid without the embarrassment of mishandled funds,” Sept. 16 editorial.
Lowering the price of financing a new power plant with tax dollars won’t work if the plant cannot be financed at all due to insufficient revenue.The energy fund approach doesn’t solve the underlying grid reliability problem long term. It won’t get enough power plants built because the Legislature placed a financial limit on the grid fix proposed by the PUC last session.
