Kentucky Fried Chicken ( KFC ) announced on Tuesday that it is moving its corporate headquarters from its namesake state of Kentucky to Plano , Texas . The relocation will see approximately 100 KFC corporate workers transitioning over the next six months, according to the Associated Press, which cited Yum Brands , the parent company of KFC , Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut. Yum Brands explained to the AP that this move is part of a strategy to establish two brand headquarters within the U.S.

, with Plano, Texas, housing KFC and Pizza Hut, while Irvine, California, will continue to be the base for Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill. The company added that 90 U.S.-based employees currently working remotely will be asked to relocate to the campus where their respective teams are based. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed disappointment over the decision, stating in a press release obtained by the AP, 'I am disappointed by this decision and believe the company's founder would be, too. 'This company's name starts with Kentucky, and it has marketed our state's heritage and culture in the sale of its product.' Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that the brand 'was born here and is synonymous with Kentucky.' Colonel Harland Sanders, the founder of KFC, launched the chain in 1930 at a service station in Corbin, Kentucky. He spent the next nine years perfecting his secret blend of herbs and spices and his fried chicken recipe, which has become globally recognized. Sanders' iconic image remains a central part of the KFC brand, appearing on restaurant signs and buckets worldwide. KFC currently operates 24,000 restaurants across over 145 countries and territories, according to the company website. Despite the corporate headquarters relocation, Yum and the KFC Foundation will maintain corporate offices in Louisville, Kentucky, according to the Associated Press. Both Governor Beshear and Louisville Mayor Greenberg expressed gratitude for the retention of these jobs in Kentucky's largest city. The Associated Press also reported that Yum plans to contribute $1 million to the University of Louisville's College of Business to fund Yum-sponsored scholarships. Additionally, KFC aims to establish a unique flagship restaurant in Louisville to continue its brand presence in the city
