ANCHORAGE, Alaska - While many outdoor activities are being compromised or altered due to lack of snow and warm temperatures across the state, the Iron Dog says it’s set to run the same 2,500-mile course as last year.
The “World’s Longest, Toughest Snowmobile Race” is scheduled to take off from Big Lake on Feb. 15. The first few hundred miles of the course out of Big Lake sees the least amount of snow. There has been much heavier snowfall approaching the Alaska Range in the middle of the course. “The 20225 Iron Dog is something we have never had before; 9 past champions. That’s more than ever,” Vasser said.
The 2017 champion Cory Davis will be taking on the tough terrain with Wes Selby, while Tyson Johnson — who won the race with Aklestad in 2016 — will be a part of Team 8 with Tom Davis. A father-daughter duo will take on “The World’s Longest, Toughest Snowmobile Race” as Larry Levine and Danielle Levine team up on Team 16. The Gossetts, Hillarie, 36, and Tim, 37, will be riding for Team 26 out of Wasilla.
