SAN ANTONIO - A dramatic day at the Bexar County Courthouse as District Attorney Joe Gonzales prepared to go toe-to-toe with the Texas Attorney General Ken Paxt
Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales spent Friday afternoon waiting to see if Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton would show up at the Bexar County Courthouse to seek a temporary restraining order against the county's voter registration efforts.on over local voter registration efforts. But after hours of waiting Friday afternoon, the AG was a no-show, prompting questions of whether Paxton was ever actually coming here in the first place.
Word came down around 1:30 p.m. that Paxton and his team from Austin were on the way. Coming here to ask a judge for a temporary restraining order after Paxton sued Bexar County this week over its plan to hire a private company to mail out more than 200,000 voter registration forms to eligible citizens.
" to oppose his request for a temporary restraining order," he explained. "These are not ballots but simply voter registration forms, and we believe in the healthy exercise of democracy." Back in Bexar County, it was just before 5 p.m. on Friday when the presiding judge called it a day and sent everyone home.
