A Hazel Green star was named the state's girls basketball Gatorade Player of the Year.
Steele is a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award to be announced in March.
The 5-foot-8 senior guard led the Trojans to a 35-0 record and their fifth straight Class 6A state championship, averaging 17.3 points, 5.5 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game. She is a two-time first team all-state selection and was the MVP of both this season’s and last year’s state championship tournament.
Steele has volunteered locally with ProjectXYZ, a technical solutions company in Huntsville. She has also donated her time with the Future Career & Community Leaders of America and has maintained a 3.79 GPA in the classroom.Steele joins recent Gatorade Alabama Girls Basketball Players of the Year Sara Puckett of Muscle Shoals, Sarah Ashlee Barker , Spain Park, Annie Hughes , Pisgah, and Zipporah Broughton , Lee-Montgomery.
