Prior to the meeting, Houston Mayor John Whitmire held a news conference calling for new leadership at the Sports Authority. The mayor also talked about how sporting venues in the city need improvements and the agency's lack of communication. Houston will be host to several World Cup matches in 2026 and Whitmire went on to say the city must be ready.
