Former Houston Fire Chief Sam Peña has taken a job at the Harris County engineer’s office, a spokesperson for the office confirmed Monday afternoon. In his new role, Peña will work as a consultant to support building operation services and “other critical improvement projects,” a spokesperson wrote in a Monday afternoon email. He will also help the office with their disaster recovery operations and make recommendations on security.
Houston Fire Chief Sam Peña is out, will be replaced by Thomas Muñoz, Mayor Whitmire says Harris County Building Operations Services oversees the day-to-day activities and maintenance of 150 facilities, many of which being for law enforcement and justice administration. Peña was hired as Houston’s fire chief in 2016 by former Mayor Sylvester Turner after serving in the same position in El Paso for four years.
