After 15 years as Gulf Shores' Police Chief, Ed Delmore has retired, effective immediately. While his contract with the city doesn't expire until November, Delmore will transition to a special consultant role working with the mayor and city council on upcoming events and ongoing projects. His Deputy Chief, Dan Netemeyer, will serve as interim Police Chief.

) - After 15 years as Gulf Shores ’ “Top Cop,” Ed Delmore has stepped down as Police Chief. The official announcement came at Monday night’s City Council meeting. His contract with the city doesn’t expire until November, though and FOX10 News has learned about Delmore’s role between now and then.

“Community Policing is something he believes in and working with the community. He started this cops program with Breakfast with a Cop or Coffee with a Cop and that was really established all over the country following that lead, so he just really established his way within the community as being someone that was present and respected,” Craft continued.

“And Joe Taylor who is a lieutenant will be the acting Deputy Director…Deputy Chief taking Dan’s place, so we’ve got people in line running the city that’s been in the city for a long time,” Craft said.
