Gucci has announced the departure of its creative director, Sabato De Sarno, after just two years. The brand is facing declining sales and issuing profit warnings, setting the stage for a new era under an yet-to-be-announced creative leader.
Sabato De Sarno has stepped down from his position as creative director at Gucci after just two years. The luxury fashion house announced the departure on Thursday, stating that its Autumn/Winter 2025 show during Milan Fashion Week on February 25th will be presented by the Gucci design studio. De Sarno joined Gucci from Valentino in 2021, where he served as fashion director, overseeing both men's and women's collections.
Prior to his Valentino tenure, he held roles at Dolce & Gabbana and Prada. Gucci's CEO, Stefano Cantino, expressed his gratitude for De Sarno's dedication and passion, particularly his commitment to honoring the brand's craftsmanship and heritage. The departure comes amidst a challenging period for Gucci, with third-quarter sales plummeting by 25 percent to €1.64 billion, significantly impacting its parent company, Kering. Kering, which Gucci is its largest brand, has issued its third consecutive profit warning in response to the sales decline.Gucci's Deputy CEO, Francesca Bellettini, acknowledged De Sarno's loyalty and professionalism while highlighting the work done to strengthen the brand's fundamentals. She expressed confidence in Stefano and the new artistic direction's ability to continue building on this progress and guide Gucci towards renewed fashion leadership and sustainable growth. A new creative director will be announced in due course.
