While the store itself survived the disaster, the owner, Nikki High, opened her doors to evacuees offering electricity, internet, food, and water. High's bookstore is now reopening as a bookstore while continuing to provide support to the community with books on disaster coping, preparedness, and a giveaway section for evacuees.

“People showed up, then I thought maybe I should have food and water… and that was the start of it,” High said. It was published in 1993, but early in the book there is an entry dated February 1, 2025, that reads “we had a fire today.”
