David Cooke, the longest-serving city manager in Fort Worth, announced Monday he will retire from his role overseeing the city’s operations in February.
Cooke has served as Fort Worth’s city manager for a decade, beginning in June 2014. During his time as city manager, Cooke led Fort Worth through the COVID-19 pandemic, remedied a pension crisis and lowered the city’s property tax rate by nearly 20 cents.surrounding a trip he took to Colorado on a private plane with billionaires Ed and Sasha Bass, who own Sundance Square, the popular entertainment district in downtown Fort Worth.
“Together, we have built and sustained an organization that is now the 12th largest city in the country, renowned for our exceptional customer service, neighborhood improvements, public-private partnerships, transparency and commitment to inclusive prosperity,” he said in the news release. City officials have not released information regarding a transition plan but promised to ensure a smooth and orderly leadership change.
