Former Mobile City Council member and County Commission Stephen Nodine said he is jumping in despite questions over his eligibility. He joins announced candidatesLawrence Battiste, who formally served stints as Mobile police chief and public safety director, told FOX10 News Monday that he also intends to run for the city’s top office.

Nodine produced a letter from the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles confirming those convictions did not disqualify him from voting or running for office. He said he agrees with the contention – laid out in an Alabama Attorney General’s opinion, that he could not take office. That is, unless he gets a pardon.

Mobile City Clerk Lisa Lambert, who is responsible for overseeing municipal election, said it is not up to her to determine eligibility. She said the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office does that.Running under the slogan “Make Mobile Great Again,” Nodine said he plans to cut the city sales tax, de-politicize policing and work toward consolidating similar city and county services to save money.

“The major thing that people are most concerned about, from what I’m hearing, is the crime,” she said. “The crime seems like it has ballooned to the point where people are afraid now, and rightfully so. So I think that that will be a major focus of my campaign.”, a hospital-based program that weeks to demonstrate the consequences of gun violence to students referred by the Strickland Youth Center.
