) - First responders from across Baldwin County were in Bay Minette Thursday, August 22, 2024 for a full-scale emergency response exercise. The goal was to better coordinate operations and work collaboratively between departments during a hazardous materials crisis.
“If we have a significant hazardous materials incident, it’s going to take a number of departments. Not one department can handle something as sufficient size as we’re rehearsing here today, so we want to see how well we use multiple departments to respond to an expanding incident,” Baldwin County Emergency Management Director, Tom Tyler explained.
The Hazmat Guys set up the scenario and will submit its evaluations to LEPC within the month. They picked a train versus car collision because it offers a realistic circumstance.
