Tracking early signs of a bit cooler weather by the end of next week.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The late-Summer heat wave continues across Alabama now through the holiday weekend. Afternoon highs will soar into the 95 to 100 degree range. While it is hot… the humid factor will be manageable - while not low, but certainly not excessively high as it can get during the summer months. As for rain chances? They remain scattered and isolated in nature each afternoon through the weekend.

The coverage of the daily storm chances will be around 20% now through Thursday, then it will gradually rise to 30% this weekend and near 40% for Labor Day. You know the drill! It won’t rain on everyone and it doesn’t rain all day, but a few lucky spots will get a quick splash-and-dash shower or storm.

Out-the-door this morning, temperatures are in the 70s under a fair sky. Highs this afternoon will warm into the upper 90s under a mostly to partly cloudy sky. Winds will be out of the east around 5 mph, becoming light to calm through the evening. A shower or storm is possible today, but will be very hit-or-miss in nature. Lows will hover in the middle to lower 70s under a fair sky.

First Alert: There is growing evidence that we *could* see a decent drop in temperatures by mid to late week next week. The latest model data has a cold front moving into the region, increasing rain coverage and lowering temperatures. Of course, data will continue to change and be adjusted as we move closer to late week next week. Remain with the First Alert Weather team and we will continue to update you with the latest information.

In the tropics, the National Hurricane Center has highlighted two areas in the Atlantic Ocean for potential development. Right now, one area has only a 20% chance for development over the next 7 days, while the other area has a 10% chance for development over the next 2 to 7 days. Something we will watch closely as we approach the statistical peak of hurricane season, which is September 10th.
