lawmaker said on Tuesday that he has asked the inspector general of the Small Business Administration to look into the PPP funds provided to Envigo RMS of Cumberland, Virginia, west of Richmond.Two PPP loans provided to the firm totaling $11 million and meant to support staffing requirements at the federal contractor were forgiven, such as many other PPP loans.

“False statements in connection with a PPP loan application may be a felony, so I am calling on the SBA’s Inspector General to investigate the facts and circumstances of this case. We must hold those who took advantage of PPP funds at the expense of innocent animals accountable,” he added.
The firm in June paid the historic fine after facing animal abuse and environmental charges. At the time, it said, “In committing the crimes identified in the charging document, and by not making the necessary infrastructure upgrades and hiring the requisite staff, we fell short of our standards for animal and environmental welfare and apologize to the public for the harm caused by our conduct.”
