The foreign-born population here in the U.S. is on the rise.

By 2022, the population from South and Central America increased by 2.
More than half of the foreign-born population live in just four states: California, Texas, Florida and New York. Foreign-born individuals make up more than 20% of the population in each state. However, only Florida and Texas saw significant growth, up by at least 20%, compared to New York and California, which saw increases of less than 10%.
In 34 states, the foreign-born population was 10% or less and in some cases 5% or less of the state’s population. West Virginia had the smallest percentage at 1.8%. In total, 42 states plus Washington D.C. saw increases of at least 10% over the decade but states like Delaware, North Dakota, South Dakota and West Virginia saw increases of 40% or more.
