Dr. Bob Liggett wins 15th title with 1,837.5-pound champion at Circleville Pumpkin Show

'To think you can get a pumpkin so large out of a seed that's half the size of your thumbnail is still so amazing,' said champion Dr. Bob Liggett. 'But we still haven't reach what we want … we want a one ton pumpkin.'

Liggett's gargantuan 1,837.5 pound prizewinner is a little less than 200 pounds away from that 2,000 pound goal. The record, which Liggett also holds, is at 1,964 pounds — just 36 pounds shy of the 1-ton mark.

it was only fitting that Wednesday's weigh-in should usher in a blistering wind chill for late October. The temperature clocked in around the lower 40s but felt colder as the wind whipped around while growers, spectators and pumpkin show officials marveled at this year's giant gourds. Still, even while bundled up in parkas and clutching hand-warmers, the crowd roared when the scale revealed Liggett's pumpkin's winning weight.

Easton's pumpkin, a slightly smaller version of his older brother's oblong orb, weighed in at 279 pounds, much to the 6-year-old's delight.
