A wretched front-nine saw Rory McIlroy fall out of contention during the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.
Beginning the day on five-under-par just four shots behind overnight leader Scottie Scheffler, McIlroy made three Bogeys and a Double Bogey on the opening nine to make the turn in 41. Another dropped shot on 11 saw the four-time major winner drop to six-over before picking up shots at 13 and 15 to finish his tournament on one-under-par.The sixth hole is where the Northern Irishman's round truly fell apart. Already two-over for the day, McIlroy found water on the Par-5 seventh on his way to making Double Bogey. Remarkably, those dropped shots meant that McIlroy played the Par-5's in one-over for the week, a full 13-shots worse than runaway winner Scheffler.
This is the second week in a row that McIlroy has had difficulty with water on the back-nine having been forced to try and hit from the water during his third round at the Cognizant Classic last week.
