Three finalists for Dallas city manager, Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, Mario Lara, and William Johnson, participated in public meet-and-greets to discuss their visions for the city. Residents and community leaders had the opportunity to meet the candidates and share their perspectives on the city's challenges and priorities. The Dallas City Council will ultimately select the next city manager.

As a result, two original candidates named semi-finalists by Baker Tilly were withdrawn by the final round and the search firm didn’t initially recommend Lara as one of the four semifinalists for Dallas city manager.The appointed position is held by Dallas’ top executive responsible for the city’s day-to-day operations. They oversee all city departments and employees, carry out policy decisions by the City Council, manage the annual budget and perform other duties.
On Saturday, Tolbert called the opportunity a “full circle moment,” noting she started working for the city as an intern and has worked for five city managers and seven different mayors over two stints with the city. She touted overseeing the process of, consolidating several city departments as a way to help close an estimated $38 million budget gap on the way there.
Genie Bentley said she believed the city should consider someone else for the position other than Tolbert, saying someone with a fresh perspective could benefit the city.“Whoever it is, I think they need to be a lot more visible for residents and employees,” she said.
