The Dallas City Council is narrowing down the search for a permanent city manager, with three finalists set to be interviewed in January. Community meetings will precede the interviews, giving residents a chance to weigh in on the candidates.

Dallas is considering three candidates for the permanent city manager position: interim city manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, Fort Worth assistant city manager William Johnson, and Sacramento assistant city manager Mario Lara. The city council plans to host community meetings on January 11-12 and interview the candidates on January 13.

This comes after a number of organizations, including the Dallas NAACP, voiced their support for Tolbert, who has been serving as interim city manager for over seven months. The NAACP and others argue that Tolbert is already familiar with the city and its needs, particularly in light of recent voter-approved initiatives. Some council members have expressed concerns about the length of the selection process
