Passing lanes are being added to the Richardson Highway between Moose Creek and Delta Junction.
Published: Jun. 17, 2024 at 5:24 PM AKDTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - Seven sections of the Richardson Highway will see new passing lanes being put in as part of a multi-year project seeking to improve safety and traffic flow.
Subject to tourism, industrial, military and international traffic, the Richardson Highway sees a lot of use from large vehicles. “Everybody’s familiar with passing RV’s that can be difficult- passing tour buses - there’s military convoys that take up a lot space as well all year long,” Perreault said whilst discussing the various hazards and frustrations faced by drivers on the highway. That heavy vehicle traffic has only increased with the addition of the ore-haul trucks.
So far, work has begun at both sections A and B closest to Eielson Air Force Base. Section A is currently under construction with pilot cars leading traffic but other areas further to the east have begun other preliminary work.
