The Texas Department of Transportation said that "this temporary beam is used during formwork and is different from the large steel beams that permanently support the flyover ramp." According to the police report obtained by reporters, The vehicle contained two workers at the time who sustained a variety of unknown serious injuries and were transported to the hospital.
"We are working with Williams Brothers Construction to ensure the work site follows all safety protocols and guidelines," TXDOT said. In June of 2012, another Williams Brothers employee also fell to his death as he was working on a highway flyover project. Victor Trevino lost his footing and fell 70 feet. He had a safety harness but it was not connected, according to police.
