The Columbus School Board is set to vote on the closure and consolidation of nine schools, a decision that has been in the works for over a year. The board will consider factors such as deteriorating facilities, ADA accessibility, and outdated infrastructure.

The board plans to vote on which schools will close and consolidate, following a final discussion. The decision has been more than a year in the making, with the process gaining momentum after the district's facilities task force released a report in June recommending closures or mergers. This past fall, board members visited the nine schools under consideration, expressing concerns about deteriorating conditions, ADA accessibility and outdated infrastructure.

The schools on the list include six elementary schools: Broadleigh, Fairwood, Lindbergh, Moler, North Linden and West Broad. Two middle schools, Buckeye and the Eastmoor Middle facility, which houses the Preparatory School for Boys, are also being considered. Additionally, the McGuffey facility, home to Columbus Alternative High School, is up for a vote. In a letter to parents earlier this month, Board President Christina Vera said, 'I want to emphasize that these nine votes, regardless of the final outcome, are not the conclusion of this journey. Instead, they represent a critical step toward aligning our school communities to ensure the best possible educational outcomes for our students.' The community awaits the board's decision at their 6 p.m. meeting, which will shape the future of education in Columbus
