The Columbus Metropolitan Library is stepping up to connect Central Ohioans with books throughout the summer.
The Summer Reading Challenge is coming back to the library starting on June 1 and is open to book lovers of all ages. Participants will track their progress of reading 15 minutes per day for 25 days to earn prizes and raffle entries. The Summer Reading Challenge aims to keep young readers from losing critical literacy skills outside of school time to the summer slide, which can place them at a disadvantage in the fall when school starts back up especially following the pandemic.
“We know that many students and families are still recovering from the learning disruptions of the last few years,” CML Public Services Director Miya Reyes said in a media release. “Helping them get back on track starts with books and reading. This is especially critical during the out-of-school months."The main branch downtown will be hosting a kickoff party on June 1 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
