Janet Ahmad with the Bexar County Homeowner-Taxpayer Association says it’s not right to use public money on legislative efforts some taxpayers may not agree with. “Local governments are spending as much as $75 million per session to hire contract lobbyists that then go and advocate for more government, more spending and a bigger bureaucracy," said James Quintero of the Texas Public Policy Foundation.But in a September work session, Assistant City Manager Jeff Coyle said, “We hire lobbyists because it is the most cost effective way."
