A cold front is approaching, bringing a chance of severe storms with damaging winds and a low risk of tornadoes.

Saturday will start chilly with most in the 30s with patchy frost potential. By the afternoon we'll see a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the mid to upper 50s. On Sunday, a strong southerly wind will help push our daytime highs into the upper 60s and low 70s. This strong southerly wind will be the first sign of a strong cold front approaching from the west. With increasing moisture, spotty showers will also be possible. Then by Sunday night, the cold front will move into our area.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely and there's a low-end risk of severe storms. Damaging wind gusts will be the primary concern, but a couple of tornadoes can't be ruled out. Storms likely move away by daybreak on Monday as the COLDEST air of the season moves in. On Monday, we'll see a high near 50, but it will likely feel colder throughout the day as a strong northerly wind brings in the colder air. From Tuesday into next weekend, we could very well see temperatures in the 40s/20s for highs and lows in Mobile. North of I-10 especially, hard freezes will be possible some nights with lows well into the 20s. Another system looks like it will arrive towards the end of next week which could bring a chance of showers. At this point the chance of seeing any winter weather looks unlikely.Rounds of severe weather (Dec 27-Dec 29) spawned tornadoes locally. Preliminary findings show 7 tornadoes so far with surveys ongoing. The the first round of this multi-day severe weather event fired up the afternoon of December 27th and settled by late evening. Round 2 began the afternoon of December 28th and lasted into the early morning hours of December 29th.
