From the moment Johnson agreed to become the Bears' next head coach, Allen emerged as a potential target. Following news of Johnson's appointment, ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed last Monday that Johnson had been diligently working on forming his coaching staff, with Allen reportedly on the list of desired candidates. Allen was dismissed during the 2024 season but boasts an impressive record as a defensive coordinator during two separate stints with the New Orleans Saints. He is considered the 'leading candidate' for the Bears' defensive coordinator position.This appointment brings valuable head coaching experience to Johnson's team. Allen has served as head coach for both the New Orleans Saints and the then-Oakland Raiders. Although his two stints as head coach were unsuccessful, he has a proven track record of success as a defensive coordinator. Doyle, a rising star in the coaching world, is presented with a significant opportunity in Chicago. Before heading to the Raiders, Allen served as a defensive coordinator in Denver for one season. Prior to that, he spent five years as a defensive assistant in New Orleans. He then went on to lead the defense for six seasons in New Orleans before being promoted to head coach.Allen arrives in Chicago with extensive expertise in defensive back play. The Bears have already shown a commitment to strengthening their secondary by acquiring Al Harris as their passing game coordinator from the Dallas Cowboys. Doyle, at 28 years old, spent the previous season coaching tight ends for the Denver Broncos.
