Students from Bear Valley Elementary School dropped off large containers of food at the Alaska Food Bank Thursday.
FastCast digital headlines for the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024.ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Students from Bear Valley Elementary School dropped off large containers of food at the Alaska Food Bank Thursday as part of their annual food drive.
Teachers said over the last six years, they have donated over 28,000 pounds of food. Last year, the school collected over 5,700 pounds — good for about 4,700 families in the Anchorage area — and this year they hope to beat that record. Northern Waste and Vulcan Towing partnered with the school to provide the school with clean dumpsters to store the food, and transportation to the food bank.
“So we’ve had two full dumpsters, five rolly bands of wheely carts, and then we had two cars full of product to the food bank,” Bear Valley teacher Jeannine Bryan said. ”We know that we are one of their largest donations of the year, and they really do count on our drive every year. And we’re very honored to be part of a community at Bear Valley that supports other communities in reaching and helping everybody.
