Mother of three and Parent Teacher Alliance member Adrienne Michel is unhappy about the way Anchorage School District published the list proposing seven Anchorage neighborhood elementary schools be closed and reconsolidated.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Mother of three and Parent Teacher Alliance member, Adrienne Michel, is unhappy about the way Anchorage School District published theMichel has a first and third-grader enrolled at Bear Valley Elementary, a school now facing permanent closure.
“Within about 10 minutes of those text messages, we got the mass email that ASD sent out to families who were enrolled in those schools,” Michel said while describing how caught off-guard she was when she heard the news. In explaining the district’s plan Bryantt expressed empathy for the feelings closing schools can bring up, but ultimately appeared hopeful at the prospect of bringing students more access to what they need.
Bryantt consistently referred to “fully resourced schools” being the goal of this project, meaning art and health teachers would be at one school full-time, and students could have P.E. classes or music daily rather than part-time.
