Jennifer Kasunick, a recent graduate of Bay Village High School, was tragically killed after being struck by a train near Hope College in Michigan. Kasunick, who lived with blindness, was known for her infectious joy and dedication to advocating for accessibility. She was a junior at Hope College, active in the orchestra and theater department, and a resident adviser. Her contributions to the community and her positive spirit will be deeply missed.

She was also an advocate for people living with disabilities, and in April 2024 had been nominated for the Accessibility Awareness Award. “Whether in the classroom or hanging around campus, Jennifer invites others to help make the world more accessible for her. Jennifer’s eagerness to be fully involved on campus has prompted many good discussions.

Back home in Bay Village, a statement from Bay High School Principal Jason Martin reads: “Jennifer was fearless. She was larger than life and touched so many members of our Bay Village community.
