Published: Dec. 20, 2024, 11:23 a.m.BAY VILLAGE, Ohio -- Residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the Bay Village Board of Education’s plan for a permanent improvement levy at the next board meeting, at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 6.In the lead-up to the Dec. 16 board meeting, school board members and district officials, including Superintendent Scot Prebles and Treasurer Meghan Rohde, worked on developing a comprehensive “Finance + Facilities for the Future Plan” for the school district.
As a result, the district’s leadership recommended placing a permanent improvement levy on the ballot.Crucially, it would not raise taxes for Bay Village residents. The goal is to address the district’s most pressing facility needs without increasing the financial burden on taxpayers. With this “unique financial opportunity,” Rohde said, “the district also plans to pay off the aforementioned 2012 construction bond five years early in 2029, rather than 2034, to avoid $790,000 in future interest payments.”
The next steps for the district include engaging with the public to inform community members about the specifics of the levy. Citizens will learn how the funds will be used and how the levy will benefit schools and students over time, according to the press release.
