The public might have to endure the summer without hot sauce after Huy Fong Foods, Inc., America's premier sriracha sauce manufacturer, informed customers in April about a looming shortage.
The shortage is expected to affect fans of the company's Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce severely, according to a report, citing a letter from Huy Fong Foods.
It began when Huy Fong Foods noticed a decline in its chili pepper inventory in about July 2020, and the situation worsened when poor weather conditions negatively affected this year's chili crop, according to the company."Unfortunately, this is out of our control and without this essential ingredient we are unable to produce any of our products," Huy Fong Foods said.
"Therefore, all orders submitted on or after April 19, 2022, will be scheduled AFTER Labor Day [Sept. 6, 2022] in the order it was received." Sriracha, as the sauce is commonly known, is the product of sun-ripened red jalapeno-hybrid chili peppers, the report noted. "We understand that this may cause issues," the letter read."However, during this time we will not accept any new orders to be placed before September as we will not have enough inventory to fulfill your order."Along with sriracha, the company expects to experience shortages of Chili Garlic Sauce and Sambal Oelek Sauce.
