Three inmates are facing murder and torture charges following the death of another inmate at the Santa Clara County Jail. The victim was found unconscious with severe injuries and later died from traumatic head wounds. The sheriff's office says the attack was likely gang-related and is reviewing safety protocols.
Crime and Public Safety |“Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time,” Sheriff Robert Jonsen said in the release.
“The sheriff’s office has established protocols designed to maintain security, with staff conducting frequent checks to monitor activity, well-being, and deter violence,” the sheriff’s office said. “Despite these precautions, incidents can still occur.” Allen said the inmate was “targeted by multiple gang members who mistakenly identified him as a rival gang member” and that the attack lasted 20 to 25 minutes.
