Two Las Vegas men were arrested on Sunday after leading police on a high-speed chase through St. George.
Anthony Perez and Henry Cruz Martinez were identified as the suspects involved in a theft at a Walmart on South Pioneer Road.
When officers from the St. George Police Department tried to stop the vehicle in the Walmart parking lot, Perez, who was driving, allegedly ignored their lights and sirens and sped off, nearly hitting a marked police car. The car fled eastbound on Brigham Road. According to police, Perez admitted to stealing from Walmart and fleeing from police, saying that he was afraid of what would happen should he have stopped. He said he purposely drove on residential streets to evade the chase.
Martinez admitted to using marijuana but denied involvement in any thefts. He said that he ran from officers because he was already "in too deep," the affidavit states.Perez, a convicted felon, has been arrested 10 times since 2020 for multiple offenses including drug trafficking, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.Perez is facing multiple charges including retail theft, possession of methamphetamine, reckless driving, and assault on a police officer.
