From the April 1981 issue of Car and Driver.There is new handwriting on the wall at Fiat Motors of North America, Inc. It says, 'Fiat wants to be your sports-car company.' This replaces the old handwriting on the wall, which said, 'Fiat wants to be your small-sedan company.' Air now goes through the meter, down to the compressor, then up through a cast-aluminum duct over the cam covers to the original throttle body. It's a neat job.The intent of the conversion was to give the Spider a torquey, big-engine feel rather than a rush of high-end horsepower. The boost starts at relatively low revs—about 1400 rpm if, say, you're climbing a hill in fifth at full throttle—and peaks at 6 psi just over 3000 rpm.
