Elyria police arrested a man Wednesday with outstanding felony warrants for burglary and domestic violence.
At 3:15 p.m., officers arrested 25-year-old Denavin Whitman of Amherst after he fled from police and nearly struck an officer. Police first attempted to make contact with Whitman in the Sycamore Suites parking lot at 621 Midway Boulevard .
Whitman fled from officers in a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, and while doing so nearly struck an officer with the vehicle. A pursuit was initiated immediately, with Whitman driving recklessly and creating a danger to the public. The chase ended at the intersection of Murray Ridge Road and Lowell Street, where Whitman struck another vehicle after failing to stop. Elyria police reported no officers or motorists were injured.
Elyria Police Chief James Welsh said Whitman’s license was suspended prior to the crash for a past violation of failing to comply with and fleeing from a police officer.
