The ship boasts a substantial capacity, carrying nearly 3,000 passengers and over 1,000 crew members. The cruise is scheduled to conclude its journey back in Gran Canaria next Monday. Upon receiving the initial alarm, Red Cross personnel and a specialized rapid intervention medical team were immediately dispatched to board the ship and provide critical care. The Administration of the Ports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira confirmed the incident, stating that the child was transported to the hospital’s emergency department following the event which occurred within the ship’s designated jurisdiction.

The ship was scheduled for a 38-hour stay, including an overnight visit, before departing for La Palma on Thursday afternoon.
The arrival of the Mein Schiff 7 was initially announced by Funchal Port officials on social media, highlighting the economic boost provided by the influx of cruise passengers. The vessel originated from Las Palmas and is operating as part of the Cruise Atlantic Islands (CAI) itinerary. This visit marked the final scheduled call to Madeira for the season, with a planned return in November.
However, the celebratory tone of the port’s announcement was quickly overshadowed by the gravity of the incident involving the young child.
