UIL boys state finals preview: Breaking down this weekend's games. There will be 12 boys basketball state champions determined at the Alamodome.

The UIL boys basketball state finals begin Thursday at the Alamodome . There will be 12 champions determined in six classifications. Among those making competing this weekend is Bellaire ’s Shelton Henderson , a Duke signee, who had 26 points and 20 rebounds against Brennan in the Class 6A Division I state semifinals on Tuesday.

Here’s a rundown of each final. Class 1A Division II Jayton vs. Bryson, 11 a.m. Thursday: Jayton , the state’s top-ranked team at the end of the regular season, is looking for back-to-back championships. Junior guard Colt Gentry, last season’s championship game MVP, returns along with two other starters who play in last year’s title win against Benjamin . Unranked Bryson is making its state debut. The Cowboys finished behind Perrin-Whitt in the District 17-1A standings. Class 1A Division I Turkey Valley vs. Perrin-Whitt, 1 p.m. Thursday: No. 2 Perrin-Whitt heads into its first state final behind led by senior Jack McCormick, who averages 30 points per game. No. 20 Turkey Valley is making its second state appearance and is in the final for the first time. Class 2A Division II Lipan vs. Martin’s Mill, 5 p.m. Thursday: Second-ranked Lipan is going for a three-peat against the state’s top-ranked Class 2A squad. Lipan has won 17 in a row since losing against Martin’s Mill, 39-36, in December. Lipan is led by sophomore Court Gaylor, last year’s championship game MVP. Martin’s Mill is led by senior Jak Kinder and junior Archer Schneider, who each average 18.3 points. Class 2A Division I Waco Meyer vs. Hearne, 7 p.m. Thursday: No. 15 Hearne is led by senior Dereion Mitchell and junior Cristian Robinson . The Eagles seek their first title in their fourth state appearance. In 1989, Hearne lost against Shaquille O’Neal’s Cole squad 67-56 in the 3A semifinals. Unranked Meyer is making its state debut. The Ravens downed Ropes, 58-51, in the semifinals to win their 19th in a row. Class 3A Division I Paradise vs. Kountze, 11 a.m. Friday: Top-ranked Kountze is in search of its fifth championship in 11 state appearances. The Lions won three in four seasons from 2004-07. Zac Sells leads the Lions with a 23.5-point average. Kountze advanced to the final following an 83-32 win against Cole in the semifinals. No. 13 Paradise , which has won 11 straight, is making its state debut. The Panthers rallied past Wichita Falls City View, 48-42, in the semifinals. Class 3A Division II Tatum vs. Columbus, 1 p.m. Friday: Second-ranked Tatum aims for its first title in its fifth appearance. The Eagles last advance to the title game in 2021 when they lost against Cole. Tatum demolished Iowa Park 77-38 in the semifinals. Columbus didn’t play its first game until Dec. 31 because of the team’s players were on the school’s football squad that defeated Malakoff, 48-14, in the Class 3A Division I state championship. Class 4A Division I Dallas Kimball vs. Houston Washington, 7 p.m. Friday: No. 1 ranked Kimball is just one win away from its eighth state title in program history. The Knights last won a state championship in 2023. Kimball dominated Lubbock Estacado, 74-56, in the state semifinals. The Knights are led by senior guard Jaylen Dean-Vines, who is set to play for Vanderbilt next season. No. 6 Washington is headed to a state title game for the second time in program history. The Eagles defeated LBJ Austin, 76-56 in the state semifinals. Washington guard Robert Jones led his team against LBJ Austin, scoring 32 points. Class 4A Division II Houston Wheatley vs. Kennedale, 5 p.m. Friday: No. 12 Kennedale is making its second appearance in a state title game and its first since the 2007-2008 season. The Wildcats narrowly defeated the Krum Bobcats, 62-60, in the state semifinals. Junior guard Jacoby Lovings scored 14 points for Kennedale. No. 8 Wheatley is returning to a state championship game for the first time since 1978. Wheatley beat No. 9 La Marque, 49-44, in the state semifinals. Class 5A Division I North Richland Hills Birdville vs. Beaumont West Brook, 1 p.m. Saturday: No. 25 Birdville is making its first appearance in a state title game. The Hawks are led by senior guard Trent Bowers, the program’s all-time winningest player. Bowers scored 17 points in the state semifinal win against Frisco Heritage. No. 4 West Brook is also making its state championship game debut. The Bruins are led by junior guard Elijah Garrett, who holds offers from Lamar and Sam Houston State. West Brook took down No. 1 Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, 67-51, in the state semifinals. Class 5A Division II Mansfield Summit vs. Fort Bend Marshall, 11 a.m. Saturday: No. 6 Summit is back in the state finals for the first time since 2023, when it fell to Killeen Ellison. The Jaguars avenged that loss on Tuesday, taking down the Eagles 48-40 for a spot in the state title game. Summit junior Ian Sedah recorded a double-double in the win. No. 2 Marshall is returning to the state championship game in the program’s first appearance since 2017. Marshall took down Alamo Heights, 47-29, in the state semifinals. Class 6A Division I Duncanville vs. Bellaire, 7 p.m. Saturday: No. 6 Duncanville took down No. 2 Allen in the state semifinals, 77-74, in a battle between two of the Dallas area’s best teams. Duncanville features TCU commit Kayden Edwards, the fifth-ranked player in the state according to 247Sports. Panther sophomore guard Beckham Black, who grabbed the rebound that secured the win over Allen, holds offers from schools like Mississippi State, SMU and Georgetown. Bellaire took down No. 1 Brennan, 65-57, to advance to its first state title game appearance. The Cardinals are led by Duke signee Shelton Henderson, who scored 26 points with 20 rebounds against the Bears. Class 6A Division II Denton Guyer vs. Katy Jordan, 5 p.m. Saturday: No. 10 Jordan and No. 11 Guyer are both making their first state finals appearance. Jordan took down Harlan, 57-36, in the state semifinals. Jordan senior guard Jaden Holt scored 20 points against Harlan to lead his team to the state title game. Guyer took down The Woodlands College Park, 68-44, in a state semifinals matchup. Guyer is led by senior guard Jordan Lowery, a UT Arlington commit. Lowery scored 24 points against College Park and is a three-star prospect, per 247Sports.
