President Donald Trump said a second round of negotiations with Iran might take place in Pakistan within two days, as the ceasefire agreement nears its expiration.
President Donald Trump said a second round of talks with Iran could happen within the next two days in Islamabad , Pakistan , where the first round of face-to-face negotiations occurred last weekend . Trump told ABC News on Tuesday that he is not considering extending the ceasefire, adding that he does not believe it will be necessary.
In a separate interview with Fox Business, Trump said we're not finished, but added he thinks the war 'is close to over.'
Overnight, U.S. Central Command confirmed that the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports along the Strait of Hormuz has been fully implemented, halting all sea trade in and out of Iran. CENTCOM says more than 10,000 service members are part of the mission.
Vice President JD Vance, who is leading negotiations with Iran, said Trump is focused on achieving a 'grand bargain.' 'The reason why the deal is not yet done is because the president, he really wants a deal where Iran doesn't have a nuclear weapon, Iran is not state-sponsoring terrorism, but also the people of Iran can thrive and prosper and join the world economy,' Vance said.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent addressed the economic impact of the situation yesterday, telling reporters, 'a small bit of economic pain for a few weeks is worth taking off the incalculable tail risk of either a nuclear Iran or a nuclear Iran that uses that weapon.' Bessent also said, 'The conflict will end, prices will come down, and then headline inflation will come down, and with that, gasoline prices will come down.'
