Investigation underway after vandalism at Pratt Park
WFSAAlabamaPrattville

Vandals trashed the restrooms at Pratt Park this weekend, causing more than $500 in damage.

Prattville Parks and Recreation Director Kellie Carter said bystanders at the splash park saw the incident Sunday and notified police.

“Destroyed several of the toilet paper dispensers, soap dispensers, pulled all the paper towels out and threw it all over the floor,” Carter said. “We had toilet paper all over the wall. ”Carter said incidents like these have happened before at the park and come in waves. This time, the vandals truck in broad daylight.

“People get bored which is obviously not an excuse for any type of vandalism. It’s happened a few times over the last couple of years but I can assure you this is one of the last times it will happen,” Carter said.

“We’ve turned over every bit of the evidence that we have to the police department,” Carter said. “It is an active investigation now. We do have an investigator that is assigned to the case and they’ve got video footage that we’ve provided them. ”“I just don’t understand the benefit of it the reasoning behind being mean spirited and cold hearted to do something like that,” Carter said.

Police lock that specific restroom each night when the park closes at dusk. The new restrooms at the park also have an auto lock installed to cut down on future vandalism.
