Halstead, 46, initially faced murder charges but grand jurors indicted her on the less serious charge of manslaughter. She also faces one count of corpse abuse. The couple moved from their Headland, Alabama, home in 2023 and left Logan’s remains in the non-working freezer, according to authorities. A grand jury later indicted Halstead on manslaughter allegations instead of murder, which could have netted her a life sentence.
Prosecutors are expected to argue at trial that Halstead’s negligence contributed to her son’s death. Halstead, who is not in custody awaiting trial, is represented by Jim Parkman, an attorney known for their high-profile clients in the prime of his career.
