) - The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs joined Gov. Kay Ivey in honoring the life of Joseph Anthony Rumore , a 106-year-old World War II veteran who recently died. Rumore was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Bessemer . He served as a first lieutenant and prior sergeant with the Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, 23rd Air Depot Group at Camp Shelby , Mississippi. He was discharged from the United States Army Air Corps and Army Reserve on Feb. 20, 1946.
“Mr. Rumore represents the very best of Alabama and our nation,” said ADVA Commissioner Jeff Newton. “His service during World War II and the way he lived his life with humility, faith, and a deep love for others serves as an enduring example for all of us.”
