MONTGOMERY Ala. -A veteran’s cemetery could be approved for Coffee County , the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs commissioner, Jeffrey Newton , said Friday. “Right now, we’ve got our eyes out for some specific property that would be ideal for the cemetery,” Newton said. “We’re looking in the Coffee County area,” Newton told WSFA television. There is only one veteran’s cemetery in Alabama — the one in Spanish Fort. A second with up to 150,000 burial sites is under construction in Madison County, funded by a $13 million grant, WSFA reported.A state veterans home constructed in Enterprise burned last year, only months after completion.
