Jasmine Mullins, a newcomer to Love Island, apologizes after mocking a fellow TikTok star's voice and using a rainbow flag meme, sparking accusations of homophobia. The drama unfolds days before the show's June 1 premiere.
New Love Island star Jasmine Mullins , 27, has issued a public apology after a clash with fellow TikTok star Damzo escalated into accusations of homophobia.
The controversy began when Damzo criticized Jasmine for mocking his 'high pitched' voice. In response, Jasmine uploaded a meme featuring a rainbow flag, a symbol of the LGBTQ+ community, which many users interpreted as homophobic. Damzo screen-grabbed her comment and shared it on his social media, writing, 'Sure take pride in your name but please don't take pride in your nasal high pitched voice.
' Jasmine then allegedly posted a screenshot of his face with the caption, 'Well I BEG you sort this out,' and accused him of deleting supportive comments from women. The incident quickly went viral, with online commentators branding her remarks homophobic.
Addressing the backlash in a video, Jasmine said, 'I would like to say directly to the guy who is making videos about me I am sorry about my initial reaction to the content you were posting regarding me and my content. Like I say I have just never been in this situation before so I reacted in a way that didn't feel true to my character.
' She claimed her videos are deliberately made to 'grab attention' and insisted she did not intend to 'create drama with anyone. ' Damzo later responded positively, praising her accountability. He said, 'Let's move all the jokes to the side, this is a good woman. An accountable woman, well done Jasmine G Muller because it's rare to see people come online and take accountability.
' The incident comes just days before the new series of Love Island premieres on June 1. All Islanders undergo comprehensive video training covering topics such as mutually respectful behavior, controlling and coercive behavior patterns, and language around disability, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and microaggressions. Producers Amanda Stavri and Lewis Evans teased exciting new twists for the upcoming season, including a never-before-seen coupling in the first episode. They stated, 'We've got to fight format fatigue and find new things to do.
It's really important that Love Island stays unpredictable. Viewers find it exciting when you pull the rug from under their feet and surprise them.
' Fan favorites like Casa Amor, Movie Night, and Snog, Marry, Pie will return. The producers also revealed a marketing campaign tied to the World Cup, saying, 'This year's marketing campaign is "it's all kicking off". The idea is that two big events are going on this summer that will get everyone talking. One is the World Cup, one is Love Island.
In America, Mexico, and Canada for the World Cup, and it's all kicking off here in Mallorca for Love Island, and we're hoping that there won't just be gameplay on the pitch, but there'll also be some gameplay in the Villa.
