My work is influenced by what I know best, which is myself. Whether it be emotional or experiential, I tend to protect and harness the emotions I am having as a woman in today’s society. Social issues pertaining to feminism may underly because it may be something I have dealt with first hand. I do feel what confuses or startles people the most is when a woman knows exactly what she wants. I am thankful every day to be an Arab woman.
She recently did a performance in the Museum of Texas Tech. I appreciate seeing her process first hand as we both journey into our own processes. I find that who you surround yourself with is essentially what you are digesting. She works in open land and I work in a studio, yet we still keep each other inspired and informed.I will forever be inspired by painters I was attracted to from my first learnings of art history like David Hockney, Georgia O’Keeffe.
