Mounting speculation that Germany will authorise the export of battle tanks to Ukraine later this week, following pressure from a number of EU member states and the UK

There is mounting speculation that Germany will authorise the export of battle tanks to Ukraine later this week, following pressure from a number of EU member states and the UK.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will address delegates in Davos shortly before President Zelensky makes his intervention. This is the first winter gathering at Davos since before the pandemic and delegates at the Swiss mountain resort are contemplating the chill winds of global recession and the deepening impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In a surprise appearance yesterday, Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska begged the thousands of political leaders and chief executives to do more to help her country. There has been a growing clamour for Germany to permit the export of German-made Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine by other NATO members and for Berlin itself to send tanks.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Minister for Finance Michael McGrath are arriving in Davos later tonight and will take part in a series of events tomorrow.

Absolutely shameful. That'd be literally declaring war to Russia instead of finding a compromise. Any compromise that would allow to stop the war should be considered as a good compromise, no question asked. Now you're looking at pushing Russia to press a red button. Not good!

Can't believe you're pressuring Germany into involvement in a war

So basically there is a war in Europe now..Allies v Russia ( China/India/Iran/Iraq/Afghanistan )
