Woman in her 20s dies after assault in Co Meath

The victim was found unresponsive in a house in the Rathmore area of Athboy early on Friday morning.

National Ambulance Service personnel were called to the house and the woman was declared dead at the scene. Her body remains at the scene, which is being preserved for forensic and technical examination. A postmortem is being arranged.A senior investigating officer has been appointed, and an incident room has been established at Kells Garda station.

Local Independent councilor David Gilroy said the “sense of shock” was “palpable across the Rathmore and Athboy communities as news broke this morning of this very tragic incident. “While the young lady wouldn’t have been particularly well known within the area, it is terribly sad that someone’s young life would be cut so short. obviously our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time,” he said.
