Republic Of Ireland National Football Team News

Robbie Keane,Willy Sagnol,FAI

Robbie Keane’s decision to leave Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv saw his odds narrow in the Ireland manager saga.

Willy Sagnot is still the man the FAI want to lead Ireland into September’s Nations League opener against England.

However, there was no indication how much money was moved onto the Tallaght native - and it doesn’t take a huge amount to move the market. The Irish football community has shown support for Gaza through a recent women’s game between Bohemians and Palestine, while Keane’s former teammate Damien Duff wore a Palestinian flag pin at games.

Handed a long-term deal by John Delaney to join Mick McCarthy’s coaching staff in 2019, he remained on the payroll when Stephen Kenny took over a year later but opted against keeping Keane in his backroom.
